A Rockefeller Foundation Scholarship brought him to the National Film Board of Canada. Ishu Patel developed innovative animation techniques to enhance his stories and visuals, producing and directing such award-winning films as The Bead Game, Afterlife, Top Priority, Divine Fate and Paradise. In recent years he produced TV spots for Nippon Oil of Japan (ENEOS), and a 60 second TV spot, “Moondust”, for the United Airlines Beijing Olympic campaign, “It’s Time to Fly”. Photography has been a parallel passion. As a young man Ishu Patel was given the unique opportunity to act as guide and photographic assistant to Henri Cartier-Bresson during HCB’s photographic journey through Gujarat and Rajasthan. Cartier-Bresson was a warm and generous teacher and the influences from this experience shaped much of Ishu Patel’s own approach toward teaching and seeing through the viewfinder. He continues photography today travelling with his Digital Leica M9 through the quickly changing countries of Asia: India, Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines and China.
